Twinresearch in the LUMC

The Twinlife study is a medical scientific research project conducted by the Leiden University Medical Center. The purpose of Twinlife is to unravel how  circumstances in the womb can influence health later in life. We will study this in identical twins who have shared a placenta in the womb. As this placenta is often unequally shared, one of the children might receive less nutrients and fall behind in growth.

We believe it is important to investigate whether the twin who received fewer nutrients experiences more health problems later in life and, if so, how this is caused. That is what we want to explore with the Twinlife study in the LUMC.
