Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does participating in Twinlife take extra time (compared to the care we already receive)?

Before the birth of your children, a number of ultrasound appointments will last 10 minutes longer than usual, where we will look more extensively at the babies' hearts.
After birth, Twinlife does not take extra time. We intend to perform the Twinlife examinations before discharge or transfer from the LUMC.
At the age of 2, 5 and 8 years the follow-up examinations are part of our standard clinical care. You and your children will be invited to the LUMC for a developmental test and ultrasound examination of the heart. The extra time constitutes approximately one day.

2. How is the blood collected from the umbilical cord?

As soon as the umbilical cords are cut, we will take the placenta and umbilical cords elsewhere. Here, we can collect the blood from the cords still attached to the placenta. You and your children will not notice any of this. So, the blood will not be drawn directly from the children.

3. We want to participate in Twinlife. If we change our minds, can we stop participating again?

If you participate in Twinlife, you can always change your mind and stop at any time. You do not have to say why you want to stop.
